DESCRIPTION A 56-year-old right-hand-dominant man sustained an avulsion injury to his right thumb while operating a rotating chain machine, resulting in a full-thickness traumatic defect of the volar aspect of the distal thumb measuring 7 cm 2 (Fig 1).
